Amelia Island Babymoon
There is a little island in the northeastern most corner of the state of Florida. An island where palm trees are replaced by angel oaks and southern charm flows easy and slow like the St. Johns River. An island named Amelia.
Amelia Island is a place where folks like Courtney and I go to babymoon in February because they know the spa will keep them warm and relaxed after cool winter walks by the Atlantic Ocean. A quiet island where the canopied oak drive feels like portal to another time and old Florida hospitably waits quietly behind every corner.
Courtney and I knew that we wanted to get away before the birth of our daughter (Spoiler: she’s here! More on that later). We collect credit card points and used them to book a fancy room at the Ritz — a room with a nice porch and fire pit (it was winter when we made our visit), chocolate covered strawberries (ok), a gift from the staff for our soon-to-arrive daughter (so nice), and a bottle of champagne (now we are talking!). Nothing like having snacks and drinks laid out for you after a 4 hour drive from Saint Petersburg!
From the spa to the restaurants, everything about the Ritz was fantastic and Amelia Island was a great departure from the busy gulf beaches that we know and love. We kept our stay low-key and spent each day soaking up our last vacation just the two of us.
One of the highlights: each morning, we ate in one of the four restaurants on site, and devoured the best sticky buns that we have ever had. On our last day there, we mentioned to our waiter how much we loved them and without skipping a beat, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a pre-printed copy of the recipe. He explained that lots of guests love them too and the chef is happy to share his secret. Our entire stay was so enjoyable and we’re both so grateful for the kindness we received from everyone while there.
Courtney and I left Amelia Island feeling refreshed and excited to meet our baby girl not long after. We can’t wait to get back to visit Amelia Island again soon, and if you’re looking for a getaway with cozy southern charm, great views and excellent sticky buns, you should definitely check them out too!
Love,
The Kahns
