St. Pete Running Routes

St. Pete Running Routes

I have mixed feelings about New Years Resolutions.

I love setting goals that are actionable and trackable, but the concept of making a bunch of drastic changes on January 1st doesn't really appeal to me. I'd rather take things one step at a time and do all I can to make sure I'm headed in the right direction. It's a marathon...not a sprint! ;)

If you are wanting to start out 2018 a little healthier, I thought I'd share some of my favorite running routes and healthier restaurants in St. Pete, FL to help us all get pointed in the right direction. I reached out to the great people at The St. Pete Running Co, and they shared some of their favorite local running routes as well!

Running Routes

Northshore Park to Coffee Pot Park

Currently my favorite route. If you start by the volleyball courts in Northshore Park and run north to Coffee Pot Park and back, you'll run just over 5 kilometers. I love this route because you have great views of the water the entire way.

Weedon Island Preserve

We just discovered Weedon Island Preserve and LOVE IT. Weedon is located in North St. Pete near the Gandy Bridge -- the long winding boardwalks through the mangroves and the wooded Boy Scout loop make this a route worth the drive. Don't forget to check out the three-story observation tower boasting awesome views of Tampa and St. Pete.

Maximo Park

Take I-275 down to the very last exit right before you hit the toll for the Skyway Bridge and make your way to Maximo Park -- a beautiful and quiet park with a fun, wooded walking/running path through the middle of it leading to the shoreline. For an extra great workout, bring your kayak or paddle board and go fishing or paddle out to Indian Key for some excellent bird watching. Maximo is also a great spot for a picnic and catching the sunset at the end of the day!

More spots from our friends at St. Pete Running Company

I haven't ran at any of these locations but plan on checking them out soon!

St. Pete Healthy Restaurants

SoHo Juice Company

Our favorite acai bowls in all the land! They are essentially smoothies with lots of yummy topping options mixed in a giant bowl to keep you full and satisfied all day. It's a TON of food and perfect after a long, hot run. Get the blue magic drizzle on top of any of the bowls (made with honey and blue algae which is great for inflammation) -- you won't be sorry!

Cider Press

One of the only restaurants we can eat at and feel totally great about ourselves after! Florida inspired and plant-based, they serve raw vegan food that actually tastes good! It's a great date night option for when you're trying to be health conscious but still want to have a great time. We love the corn chowder and Sonoma Jack Sandwich made with jackfruit (it tastes like BBQ chicken)!

Fresh Kitchen

Guilty as charged -- we're totally obsessed with Fresh Kitchen! We currently live 5 minutes away from their 4th Street location and probably eat here once every couple of weeks. It's our go to for a quick lunch or dinner and it's certainly a popular place to eat, but they've streamlined their service well in order to get people eating in less than 12 minutes! We love their almond-crusted chicken, steak, BBQ-chicken, mushrooms, roasted Brussels sprouts, and coconut sriracha sauce (basically you can't go wrong with anything here).

Hope you enjoy!
